- Can you think of a time when you met someone and immediately felt drawn to them?
- Can you remember a time when you met someone and were immediately turned off by them?
- Can you remember why?
- I’d hazard a guess that it was because of how they made you feel. You see it is said that you never get a second chance to make a first impression and I really do believe that this is so true.
I can recall meeting some people and because of one reason or another I immediately took a dislike to them but quite often honestly couldn’t tell you why that was the case if you were to ask me. The opposite can be said when I have taken warmly to someone immediately.
I also do think that there is some great strength in the view that how you appear and approach people will determine the outcome of how you are treated. I was in a “Subway” yesterday in a queue behind a mother and son; I’d guess he was around 13 years old. When the lady behind the counter asked about the order the young boy displayed exemplary manners asking for his sandwich. I commented to him and his mother how proud she must be to have a boy with such manners. She turned round to me and initially looked uneasy that I had made such a comment and engaged with total strangers in a ”Subway” but then went on to say how proud she was of him and thankful that I had taken the time to comment about her son.
It made me feel good with her reaction and I know it made them feel good!!
